VocaMonkey ("we", "our", "us") operates the VocaMonkey web application at vocamonkey.com and the VocaMonkey Chrome extension. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your information.
2. Data We Collect
- Account information: Email address and display name when you sign up.
- Vocabulary data: Words you save, flashcard decks, study progress, and learning statistics.
- Extension data: When you use the Chrome extension, we process the word you look up and the surrounding sentence for context. We do not collect browsing history or page content beyond the selected word and its sentence.
- Usage data: Basic analytics such as feature usage and session activity to improve the product.
3. How We Use Your Data
- Provide dictionary definitions and AI-powered word explanations.
- Save words to your vocabulary folders and sync across devices.
- Generate flashcards, quizzes, and spaced repetition schedules.
- Improve and maintain the service.
4. Chrome Extension
The VocaMonkey Chrome extension:
- Activates only when you double-click a word on a webpage.
- Sends the selected word and surrounding sentence to our servers for definition lookup and saving.
- Stores your API token and language preference locally in Chrome storage.
- Does not collect browsing history, page URLs (except when saving a word for source reference), cookies, or personal information from webpages.
- Does not run any remote code. All extension scripts are bundled locally.
5. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely on servers provided by Vercel and Supabase. We use HTTPS encryption for all data in transit and follow industry-standard practices to protect your information.
6. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Supabase: Authentication and database hosting.
- Vercel: Application hosting.
- Stripe: Payment processing (we do not store your payment card details).
- Anthropic (Claude AI): AI-powered word explanations and card generation.
7. Data Retention
Your vocabulary data is retained as long as you have an active account. You can delete individual words, decks, or your entire account at any time. Upon account deletion, all associated data is permanently removed.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access and export your data.
- Delete your account and all associated data.
- Opt out of optional analytics.
9. Children’s Privacy
VocaMonkey is designed for language learners of all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes via email or an in-app notice.
